This is an introduction to the nature and meanings of prayer. It forms part of a series whose aim is to help Christians to think through their faith, looking at issues that arise in everyday life.;Many people today are troubled by the idea of prayer. Some feel that their prayers remain unanswered; others feel guilty because they do not pray enough. Stephen Dawes tries to support the reader in asking what the place of prayer should have in the life of the Christian by taking these concerns seriously. Questions are provided at the end of the book to enable understanding and encourage further discussion.

Customer Reviews

thought-provoking
Stephen Dawes writes in an easily accessible style, but introduces a range of challenging ideas about prayer. Stephen is a methodist minister and academic, with excellent skills in communicating with the general reader. Through the eyes of different characters he explores different ideas of prayer, finally bringing us up-to-date with post-modernist ideas, though the book is thankfully free of such technical terms.
