In 2002 Brian Houston was invited to play a tour of England as an opening act to a visiting American band. The deal was, make your own way to the gig with no guarantees of a place to sleep and the only money was to come from CD sales.
Brian borrowed a friends car and with his wife and a credit card for company Houston trekked around the countryside playing half full bars and less than hundred seater clubs. It was the beginning of the transformation from band front man to solo artist and one man show.
Many of the sound engineers at these venues had a habit of recording the main artists on stage and as a sideline asked the support acts if they wanted to be recorded for a small fee. This was the first time Brian Houston had heard what he sounded like to audiences as a solo artist. He collected these CDs and Mini Discs and alarmed at what he heard; gradually adjusted his performances, fine tuning his style and inventing stories to introduce the material to the growing audiences to keep the show flowing and introduce some humour.
This year Houston finally stepped out of the opening act slot and began his first headline shows touring the UK. For years fans of his early performances have been asking for recordings and a live DVD. Now to mark his first headline tour is a selection of your live favourites. Enjoy!
